You might think, as the daughter of one of the founders of Simon & Schuster, Carly Simon would have written a book sooner. But the now-70-year-old songstress has kept fans waiting until this year: Her first memoir, “Boys in the Trees,” will be published in November.

“This book is my way of going back through my childhood, my music, my romances, my marriage ... and trying to make sense of it all,” Simon said in a release. “I’ve been working on it for so long that it feels like my third child ... but now it’s time to send that child out in the world. It’s one of the most frightening -- and exciting -- things I’ve ever done.”

Flatiron Books (not affiliated with Simon & Schuster) will publish the book.

Publisher Bob Miller says, “‘Boys in the Trees’ is unlike any memoir I’ve ever read by a well-known personality. Carly Simon is honest here to the point of vulnerability, sharing her deepest desires, regrets and fears along with her triumphs as a musician and a woman. We feel very lucky to be her publisher.”

The book will encompass Simon’s childhood, her early years singing folk songs with her sister in Greenwich Village, her romances, marriage to James Taylor (and its public dissolution), family secrets, what inspired her confessional songwriting, and her successful solo career that has included 13 top-40 hits, led by “You’re So Vain.”

“Boys in the Trees” will be published Nov. 24, just in time for holiday shopping.
