It happened like a one-two punch; Jeb Bush had barely stopped to catch his breath after announcing that he would publish a book in early 2015 before he followed it up with the news that he would like to run for president.

“I am excited to announce I will actively explore the possibility of running for president of the United States,” Bush tweeted Tuesday.

On Sunday, Bush appeared on a Miami television station and announced that he would be releasing an e-book -- something he’d decided to do as he got ready to release 250,000 emails from his time as Florida’s governor.

“One of the things I am going to do as I go through this process is release all of my emails and write an e-book, which has been kind of fun to go back and to think about this, and remind myself that if you run with big ideas and then you’re true to those ideas, and get a chance to serve and implement them and do it with passion and conviction, you can move the needle,” Bush told WPLG-TV. “And that’s what we need right now in America.”

Bush’s rhetoric had political watchers speculating that he might have a presidential bid in mind. “At several points in the interview, Bush sounded like a candidate-in-waiting,” the Washington Post wrote.

Bush, 61, served as Florida’s governor from 1999 to 2007. He is the son of former President George H.W. Bush and the brother of former President George W. Bush.
