Sportsman’s estate with film pedigree to be auctioned
An Andover, Mass., estate used in the filming of the HBO movie “Clear History” and seen on HGTV’s “Million Dollar Rooms” is headed for the auction block.
The home, which featured prominently in the 2013 comedy starring Larry David, Kate Hudson and Jon Hamm, among others, is slated to be sold to the highest bidder through a sealed bid auction held by Madison Hawk Premier Property Group. Bidding will begin Thursday, with the auction concluding on Nov. 4.
The custom residence, designed for recreation and entertaining, occupies nearly four acres in Essex County with an indoor pool and waterslide, a billiard room, a batting cage and a full-sized indoor basketball court complete with a balcony and bleachers.
Lined in cedar and fieldstone, the home features geothermal radiant heat, cherry and mahogany finishes and custom built-ins. The massive floor plan includes a gourmet kitchen, a formal dining room, a movie theater, an office, five fireplaces, nine bedrooms and 9.5 bathrooms in more than 20,000 square feet of living space.
In addition to the indoor basketball court, an entertainment wing houses a gym, locker rooms, a private bowling alley and a wet bar with an arcade.
Outdoors, a raised patio with a hot tub and fire pit centers on unobstructed views of Bald Hill. A professional putting green and a heated three-car garage also reside on the park-like grounds.
The property, which has bounced on and off the market the last four years, most recently listed for sale at $5.499 million in February 2013. Public records show that the home last sold in 2001 for $675,000.
