Readers React: There are too many of us on this planet

Share

To the editor: Please listen to letter writer Stephanie Feldstein and the Center for Biological Diversity. Overpopulation is a world problem, not a local or national one. There are about 2 billion too many people on Earth right now to keep our planet livable. (“Overpopulation is killing the world’s biodiversity,” Readers React, Jan. 30)

Why is this subject a taboo? Some people claim racism. Some claim cultural values. Some claim the need for large families to take care of them in their old age. If these are real problems, we must find ways to overcome them.

There is no way the Earth has a future unless we address this. Wars, pestilence or nuclear blasts might do it, but they would have to be huge and horrible. And soon.
