Mother, daughter killed by driver while crossing street in West Hills identified

The mother and daughter who were killed when they were struck by a motorist while crossing the street in West Hills have been identified, authorities said Tuesday.

The women, both residents of West Hills, were identified as Pia Botz, 69, and Erica Botz, 31, said Lt. Larry Dietz of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

The two women were walking across Roscoe Boulevard in a crosswalk near Jason Avenue on Monday about 8:20 p.m. when they were struck by a car headed west, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The driver of the 2015 red Subaru Forester that struck the women stopped and remained at the scene after the crash, police said. He was not believed to be impaired and was not detained by police.

Erica Botz was pronounced dead at the scene. Her mother was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The dog that the women were walking with was also hit during the crash and later died.

The incident is under investigation by the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division.
