San Diego officer kills man who tried to attack him with a knife, police say
A San Diego police officer shot and killed a 60-year-old man who was attempting to stab him with a knife, police said Friday.
The incident occurred Thursday night in the Black Mountain Ranch community after police received a call that a man had been assaulted by another resident in a condominium complex, according to Lt. Paul Rorrison.
Police went to the suspect’s condo. The man came out of his residence holding a knife and refused orders to drop the weapon, Rorrison said.
The police officer fired one shot, Rorrison said. The man, identified as Ton Nguyen, was pronounced dead at a hospital in La Jolla.
Police identified the officer, a veteran of 24 years with the department, as Michael Alberts.
