New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie fields questions in Facebook chat

Share

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has fostered a close relationship with Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg, attending a fundraiser at his Palo Alto home last year and securing a $100 million donation from the tech guru for Newark schools in 2010.

So, with Christie on the West Coast to raise money for the Republican Party, it was no surprise to find him back at Facebook headquarters on Friday.

The governor met with Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg, the company’s chief operating officer, and participated in an online chat with Facebook users.

Several of the questions gave Christie a chance to repeat political platitudes. Asked about gridlock in Congress, he said, “I wish people would focus on solving the problems in our country.”

He was also pelted with inquiries about local issues, such as the appointment of a county prosecutor and the canceling of an afterschool program.

Facebook users asked Christie about his favorite character from the “Jersey Shore” television series -- “None” -- and praised his dancing on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon.

Some urged Christie to run for president, but not everyone was so kind. “Is there a way to impeach yourself?” one asked. Christie responded, “Unfortunately for you, no.”

After roughly 30 minutes, Christie ended the chat. He left unanswered what might have been the most explosive question in his beach-obsessed home state -- “What’s your favorite Jersey beach?”
