To the editor: I have little sympathy for white people who feel slighted by efforts to treat non-white people with the same dignity white people have always, unquestioningly, been afforded. (“‘There’s nothing wrong with being white.’ Trump’s win brings ‘white pride’ out of the shadows,” Nov. 17)

This is not a replacement scenario. The idea isn’t to replace white dominance with some other group —it is to bring non-whites to the table to share equally in the rights and privileges of this country.

How many times have we heard people say that blacks, women or others are being “overly sensitive” to a perceived slight like a microaggression or an off-color joke at work? Well, now it seems the shoe has switched feet and white people are the ones being overly sensitive.

It’s tough when you suddenly have to be treated like everyone else and get a taste of burdens others have to bear. As a white person, I say to my brethren, suck it up — it is time to accept that skin color has nothing to do with abilities and has no place in deciding who gets what privileges.

To the editor: Trump’s election has intensified feelings of embarrassment in me, my husband and a number of other white people we know.

Pride or embarrassment over one’s appearance should never be an issue. Unless someone is an identical twin, all people are different and should feel comfortable just being themselves.

How tragic this is.

To the editor: In my first job out of college, my boss shoved me against his office wall and pushed his hand under my skirt. Years later, with a distinguished professional resume, I was told in an interview, “You’re the best candidate, but they’d never hire a woman for this job.”

As a woman, I have faced harassment and discrimination. As a white person, never.

Defending his Trump vote, one white man was quoted as saying, “There is nothing wrong with being white.” Exactly. So why is there so much complaining by some people as if there is?
