Live updates: Clippers defeat Spurs, 107-92, in Game 1

The Clippers beat the San Antonio Spurs, 107-92, in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series at Staples Center on Sunday night.

The Spurs cut the Clippers’ 18-point lead to nine after Marco Belinelli made a three-pointer with 7 minutes 36 seconds left.

The Clippers quickly responded with a 7-0 run to retake a sizable double-digit lead, eventually taking their biggest lead of the game at 20 points, 107-87, after Chris Paul made a three-pointer with 2:40 left.

Blake Griffin and Chris Paul combined for 58 points, more than half of the Clippers’ total.

Paul had a game-high 32 points on 13-of-20 shooting, including making three of his five three-point attempts, and getting seven rebounds and six assists. Griffin finished with 26 points, though it took him 20 shots to get them, 12 rebounds and six assists. Jamal Crawford added 17 points off the bench on seven-of-10 shooting, including making three of his four three-point attempts.

The Clippers outshot the Spurs from the field, 51.3% to 36.6%, and from beyond the three-point line, 55.6% to 30.3%.

The Spurs only shot 53.8% (14 of 26) from the free-throw line,. The Clippers, however, weren’t much better, shooting 60.7% (17 of 28).

Kawhi Leonard led the Spurs with 18 points, six rebounds and three assists. Tim Duncan and Tony Parker shot a combined eight for 21 from the field, scoring 21 points.

It was a good start for the Clippers, who were swept out of the playoffs by the Spurs when the teams met in the second round in 2012. The Spurs have won five NBA championships, including last season. The Clippers have never advanced past the second round.

Game 2 in the best-of-seven series will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Staples Center.

Chris Paul made a step-back jumper a possession after scoring on a layup to give the Clippers a 104-87 lead over the Spurs with 3 minutes 53 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

The Clippers took their biggest lead of the game at 18 points after Paul made a driving layup with 42 seconds left to put his team up, 79-61. Paul had 12 points in the quarter, and has 19 points, six rebounds and six assists in the game.

Griffin had two monster dunks over Aron Baynes in the third quarter. He had 10 points in the third quarter and leads all scorers with 23 points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Matt Barnes and Baynes struggled for a jump ball long after a whistle was called on the play with 4 minutes 41 seconds left in the third quarter, both of them falling into the stands. Barnes then quickly stood up and ran away from the scene with his hands up in the air. The crowd ate it up, and gave Barnes a standing ovation.

The Clippers are outshooting the Spurs from the field, 58.3% to 33.8%, and from beyond the three-point line, 59.3% to 26.3%.

Kawhi Leonard leads the Spurs with 16 points, six rebounds and two assists.

One thing that the Clippers have going for them is all their player are healthy. The Spurs announced before tipoff that center Tiago Splitter will play despite tightness in his right calf.

The teams split their four games in the regular season, the Spurs winning in the first two meetings. The Clippers and the Spurs have met in the playoffs once, with San Antonio sweeping a second-round series in 2012.
