Giants blast past Dodgers

KEY MOMENT: The game was tied, 2-2, until the fifth inning, when Justin Maxwell blasted a two-run home run off Dodgers starter Carlos Frias. The Giants increased their lead to 6-2 in the following inning on another two-run homer off Frias, this one by Brandon Belt.

ON THE MOUND: Frias pitched 51/3 innings for the second consecutive start. He lost again, as was also the case five days earlier against the Texas Rangers. This time, Frias was charged with six runs and five hits. He struck out two and walked one. Frias started the game by plunking Nori Aoki and serving up a double to Joe Panik. Aoki and Panik scored on sacrifice flies to move San Francisco in front, 2-0. Aoki left the game in the bottom of the inning with what the Giants called a lower leg contusion. Right-hander Matt West pitched two scoreless innings in his Dodgers debut.

AT THE PLATE: Joc Pederson and Justin Turner hit back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game, 2-2. The Dodgers offense fell back into a slumber after that, allowing 39-year-old Giants starter Tim Hudson to pitch into the seventh inning. Jimmy Rollins had two hits, including a leadoff double in the fourth inning. Hudson lasted 61/3 innings and was charged with two runs and six hits. He walked two.

EXTRA BASES: West was recalled from triple-A Oklahoma City before the game. The promotion to the major leagues was the second of the season for West, who was acquired from the Toronto Blue Jays on May 4. In a corresponding roster move, right-hander Josh Ravin was sent down to triple A. Ravin posted a 6.43 earned-run average in seven appearances for the Dodgers. … Joel Peralta, who has pitched in two games for Oklahoma City as part of a rehabilitation assignment, could be activated next week when the Dodgers are in Chicago, Manager Don Mattingly said. Peralta has been sidelined for nearly two months with a nerve-related problem.
