Gonzalez’s three-run homer leads Dodgers to 11-8 win over Padres

KEY MOMENT: The Dodgers increased their advantage to 10-3 in the fifth inning, when Howie Kendrick and Juan Uribe hit two-run home runs. Those runs later proved valuable, as the Padres scored four in the sixth inning, including three on Justin Upton’s second home run off starting pitcher Brandon McCarthy.

AT THE PLATE: Of Adrian Gonzalez’s team-leading seven home runs, six have come against the Padres. The latest was hit in the second inning, a three-run shot against Padres starter Ian Kennedy. Andre Ethier, who started in place of a sidelined Yasiel Puig, was three for four with a home run, a double, a walk and three runs batted in.

ON THE MOUND: McCarthy was charged with six runs and six hits before he departed in the sixth inning because of tightness in his elbow. The six runs were the result of three home runs, including two in the first inning by Wil Myers and Upton. Sergio Santos, who was called up from triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday, pitched the sixth inning and gave up a run. Juan Nicasio pitched two scoreless innings; Chris Hatcher worked the ninth, striking out the side but issuing a walk, two wild pitches and a run.

ROSTER MOVE: Right-hander Scott Baker will be promoted from Oklahoma City to start Sunday for the Dodgers in the series finale, Manager Don Mattingly said. Baker, 33, was in spring training with the New York Yankees but was released at the end of camp. He was signed by the Dodgers to a minor league contract. In three starts for Oklahoma City, Baker has posted a 1.06 earned-run average. Baker has pitched in 191 major league games, including 170 starts. He has a career earned-run average of 4.25.

INJURY REPORT: Joel Peralta has a fatigued shoulder and could be headed for the disabled list. . . . Sidelined left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu is scheduled to throw a bullpen session in the coming days. Ryu hasn’t thrown off a mound since he was shut down in spring training because of shoulder inflammation.
