Ben Roethlisberger resumes practicing

Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger practiced in a limited capacity Monday, two weeks after undergoing surgery to repair the meniscus in his left knee. Whether he’ll be able to start when the Steelers visit archrival Baltimore on Sunday is an open question.

Teammates confirmed Roethlisberger practiced with the first team and scout team. He also participated in seven-on-seven drills and ran the no-huddle offense.

Roethlisberger, who did not speak to reporters after practice, was initially expected to miss four to six weeks following the surgery. If he can’t go Sunday, fourth-year veteran Landry Jones is likely to start as he did in the Steelers’ last game, an Oct. 23 loss to New England.

Elliott, Jones interviewed by NFL

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones acknowledged speaking with the NFL’s special counsel for domestic violence investigations, and rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott said he was interviewed by the league about six weeks ago regarding an abuse claim made against him. Prosecutors in Ohio declined to press charges over the summer in a domestic violence case involving the fourth overall draft pick.

Browns get Collins

Cleveland acquired linebacker Jamie Collins from New England, one day before the NFL trade deadline. The Browns will give up a conditional third-round draft pick for Collins, a second-round pick in 2013 who has been one of the Patriots’ better defensive players the last three-plus seasons.

Former Cleveland receiver Josh Gordon has finished a 30-day rehabilitation stay, ESPN and Associated Press reported. Gordon, who has been suspended several times for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, said in late September he was entering rehab. He currently is suspended indefinitely by the league. . . .

Kansas City trainer Rick Burkholder said team physicians and an independent neurologist do not believe that quarterback Alex Smith sustained a concussion during Sunday’s win over Indianapolis, contrary to a team announcement during the game that he had. Running back Spencer Ware did sustain a concussion and is unlikely to play this week against Jacksonville. . . .

Arizona left tackle Jared Veldheer will be placed on injured reserve with a torn triceps and defensive back Tyrann Mathieu will miss three to six weeks with a shoulder injury.
