Watch Bills Coach Rex Ryan pose as a reporter to get information out of Patriots’ Julian Edelman

The New England Patriots have yet to reveal who will play quarterback for them Sunday against the Buffalo Bills. It won’t be Tom Brady, who will be serving the last game of his Deflategate suspension. It could be one of his backups, Jimmy Garoppolo or Jacoby Brissett, although both of them are nursing injuries.

Or it could be receiver Julian Edelman, a former college quarterback who is the emergency backup behind the other three guys.

With no information on the quarterback situation coming from the Patriots, Bills Coach Rex Ryan took matters into his own hands on Wednesday.

As Edelman was wrapping up a conference call with Buffalo reporters, Ryan positioned himself over the speakerphone and identified himself as “Walt Patulski from the Buffalo News” (Walt Patulski is the name of a defensive end the Bills drafted with the No. 1 overall pick in 1972).

Ryan/Patulski asked the player directly, “Are you playing quarterback this week.”

Not surprisingly, Edelman did not give a direct answer.

“I’m gonna do whatever the coaches ask me to do,” Edelman said as Ryan laughed his butt off on the other end. “So if they ask me to go out and get a glass a water to someone on the sideline, I’m gonna do that with a smile on my face if it helps our team win. So you can ask Coach that one.”

Ryan chuckled, “ All right, Julian, I will, buddy.”

Oh well, can’t blame the guy for trying.
