Cops called when UK, Louisville fans fight in ... a dialysis center?

Even Duke and North Carolina fans might say this is taking a rivalry too far. Then again, those schools have never met in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, let alone the national semifinals.

Five days before Kentucky and Louisville meet in the Final Four in New Orleans came word that police had to be called to break up a fight Monday between rival fans at a dialysis center.

The altercation took place in Kentucky at the Georgetown Dialysis Clinic. According to WKYT-TV, a Kentucky fan hooked up to a dialysis machine overheard a Louisville fan waiting for treatment “running his mouth” about how Louisville was going to beat Kentucky on Saturday.

The Louisville fan told the station that he was talking to someone else when the “meddling” Kentucky fan gave him the finger. A scuffle ensued but was over by the time police arrived, the report said.

Tensions are running high. Louisville Coach Rick Pitino, who used to coach at Kentucky, said last weekend “There will be people at Kentucky that will have a nervous breakdown if they lose to us. You’ve got to watch. They’ve got to put the fences up on the bridges.”

Kentucky and Louisville tip off at 3:06 PDT Saturday. Two other schools in the Final Four will play the second game.
