Peyton Manning says he was ‘open book’ about health issues

Reporting from Denver -- In his introductory news conference as the new quarterback of the Denver Broncos, Peyton Manning said Tuesday he has a long way to go to be where he wants to be health-wise, but emphasized he was an open book with the teams courting him.

Ultimately, he chose the Broncos over San Francisco and Tennessee.

“In the end, I felt the Broncos were just a great fit,” Manning said.

John Elway, the famed Broncos quarterback and now the team’s executive vice president of football operations, said he watched Manning throw about 60 passes in an unscripted workout at Duke University but felt most confident after asking the quarterback a simple question.

“I asked him, ‘Is there any doubt in your mind that you can’t get back to the Peyton Manning we know of?’” Elway said. “And he said, ‘There’s no doubt in my mind.’”
