Ryan Fitzpatrick reportedly traded to New York Jets from Texans
Ryan Fitzpatrick wasn’t horrible with the Houston Texans last year.
The New York Jets were horrible last year.
So maybe that’s reason enough for them to trade for the journeyman quarterback. Multiple media outlets reported that transaction between the Texans and Jets on Wednesday. Fitzpatrick will presumably compete with third-year quarterback Geno Smith for the Jets’ starting job.
Fitzpatrick, 6 feet 6, was the Texans’ starting quarterback last year, throwing for 2,483 yards and completing 63.1% of his passes with 17 touchdowns and eight interceptions for a passer rating of 95.3.
But the writing was on the wall for the former member of the St. Louis Rams, Cincinnati Bengals, Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans after Houston on Monday reportedly made deals with quarterbacks Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett.
The Jets finished 4-12 last year and Smith was 3-10 as the starting quarterback. He threw for 2,525 yards and completed 59.6% of his passes with 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions for a passer rating of 77.5.
