Von Miller on Peyton Manning: ‘I don’t think he’s going to retire’

Super Bowl MVP Von Miller couldn’t resist making a joke at Denver teammate Peyton Manning’s expense Tuesday while appearing on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

Miller said that he hadn’t seen the 39-year-old quarterback since right after the Broncos’ 24-10 victory over Carolina on Sunday night. “I think he had to rush out to do a Life Alert commercial,” Miller said.

In other words, Manning is old, at least for an NFL quarterback. He has said he’s going to take some time before deciding whether he’s going to retire or not.

Most people assume Manning will ride off into the sunset after winning a second Super Bowl ring. But Miller disagrees.

“I don’t think he’s going to retire,” Miller told DeGeneres. “He still has the physical ability and the mental ability to go out there and be great, so I still think he’s got a little bit left in him.”

In 10 games during his injury-shortened season, Manning completed 59.8% of his passes for 2,249 yards with nine touchdowns and 17 interceptions. In the playoffs, he completed 55.4% of his passes for 549 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

The 26-year-old Miller was straightforward about his own chances of playing in a Broncos uniform next year and beyond.

“I want to stay with the Broncos for 15 to 20 years,” the upcoming free agent said, “but, you know, money talks, right?”
