Sitout period ends on Monday for winter sports transfer students

The winter sitout period ends on Monday for transfer students, and no one has waited longer than Cyrus Johnson of Bishop Montgomery.

He left Windward early during the 2015-16 basketball season and was forced to be on the sideline until this coming week. He’s a 6-foot-4 junior and the son of former Crenshaw and UCLA great Marques Johnson.

Junior guards Eric Bushner and Jalen Bolden, transfers from El Camino Real, will add depth to Birmingham.

Village Christian is expected to receive a huge lift with the addition of 6-6 sophomore Daniel Boatwright, younger brother of USC’s Bennie Boatwright.

He was a standout freshman last season at Canoga Park. Also becoming eligible is 6-7 junior Jordan Starr, a transfer from Foothills Christian who played with UCLA’s T.J. Leaf last season. Village Christian is 11-3 and about to get a lot stronger.

One major unresolved transfer is 6-11 Bol Bol, the son of the late NBA player Manute Bol who left Kansas City and was supposed to transfer to Mater Dei. The school doesn’t accept transfers until the spring semester that begins on Jan 9.

People in Orange County are on the Bol Bol watch.
