Entertainment at new heights

A high-energy homage to the calendar girls of the 1940s, ’50s and ’60s? Why didn’t we think of that?
Probably because we’re not Stratosphere, producers of “Pin Up,” a modern take on the timeless art of va-va-voom.

“Pin Up” follows their recent success with Frankie Moreno, who earned the title of “Best Strip Headliner” from Las Vegas Weekly for his prodigious piano performances at the Stratosphere. With his 10-piece band, Moreno takes center stage, where he interprets classic covers and his own hits with youthful sparkle and old-Vegas verve.

Now add “Pin Up” to the Stratophere’s impressive slate of entertainment. Featuring famously curvy former Playboy Playmate of the Year, Claire Sinclair, this sultry show boasts an impressive cast of dancers and singers backed by a stunning six-piece live band with a horn section led by celebrated trumpeter, composer and conductor David Perrico.

In addition to “Pin Up,” the newest hit at the Stratosphere, is Perrico’s own 18-piece project, Pop Evolution, which features powerful female vocals and the punch of Perrico’s distinctive playing to transform hit songs from multiple genres into unique big band sounds. The Stratosphere will donate half of all door proceeds from David Perrico — Pop Evolution shows to the Las Vegas Academy, a local magnet high school dedicated to the performing and visual arts.

At the Stratosphere’s Level 107 Lounge (located, yes, 107 floors above the glittering Strip), DJ Dezie spins house music every Wednesday through Saturday. Named on the SheFM Top 100 Female DJ list, Dezie has performed all over the West Coast and boasts a string of prestigious Vegas residencies. Or, if you prefer to be back on the ground, Images Lounge features live bands Thursday through Sunday nights, performing popular songs in intimate, friendly surroundings for no cover.

That’s quite the range of live entertainment, under one very high roof.
