This London garden will get you high
London, a city famous for its gardens, has a new one for visitors to enjoy, but having a look could come with a nosebleed.
The garden sits 800 feet above street level at the View From the Shard, an observation deck on the 72nd floor of the Shard, on the south bank of the River Thames.
The garden, which opened Thursday, consists of more than 2,000 plants and trees growing in about 2,600 gallons of soil. The colorful display includes daisies, geraniums, lavender, lupines, marigolds, phlox and poppies.
There’s even a bright green lawn, but it won’t need watering; it’s artificial turf.
The garden is scheduled to admit visitors into September. A firm closing date has not been set.
Admission to the observation deck costs $39 for adults and about $29.50 for children 4-15.
The Shard, which opened in 2013, resembles a shard of glass and soars 1,016 feet, dominating the London skyline. It shorter than Moscow’s Mercury City Tower, at 1,111 feet, which Europe Business Review says is the tallest in Europe.
Los Angeles’ loftiest building, the U.S. Bank Tower, is 1,018 feet tall.
