Breaking through the mountain

Workers with the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California break through a wall of rock with a Tunnel Boring Machine during the final few feet of a four-mile section of the Inland Feeder system. The tunnel will eventually be a part of a 44-mile system transporting water from the Devil Canyon Portal to Diamond Valley Lake, near Hemet.
