Man, 19, charged with capital murder in Inglewood double homicide
A man accused of gunning down his ex-girlfriend and a 64-year-old woman in Inglewood as she tried to protect her grandson was charged Friday with capital murder, meaning prosecutors may pursue the death penalty.
Justin Marquis Scott, 19, was scheduled to be arraigned later in the day Friday on two counts of murder with the special circumstance of multiple murders, and one count of attempted murder, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
The grandson, who was dating Scott’s ex-girlfriend, was also seriously wounded in the shooting, which occurred Tuesday in the 11700 block of South Crenshaw Boulevard. Authorities said Scott fled the scene of the attack, which left his ex, 18-year-old Crystallyn Nguyen, and her boyfriend’s grandmother, Dora Dawson, dead.
Prosecutors allege Scott “confronted” them about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday before the shooting occurred. Dawson was shot, they added, as she tried to protect her grandson, 22-year-old Datwan Henderson.
Nguyen and Dawson were pronounced dead at the hospital.
Scott was arrested earlier this week after questioning by police.
The district attorney’s office said a decision on whether to seek the death penalty against Scott would be made “at a later date.”
