2 arrested in shooting death of man found at L.A. Valley College

Two men were arrested Sunday in San Jacinto by L.A. County sheriff’s homicide detectives in connection with the shooting death of a man in a parking lot of L.A. Valley College, authorities said.

Raheen Taylor, 31, and Derrick Wilson, 25, were booked at the Inmate Reception Center and are being held without bail in the Los Angeles County jail system.

They are scheduled to be arraigned at Van Nuys Superior Court on Tuesday.

The victim of the shooting was identified on Sunday as Ricardo Zetino, 31, of Tujunga, according to a statement from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.

He was fatally shot Saturday at about 7:25 p.m. in a parking lot of Valley College at 5800 Fulton Ave. in Valley Glen, officials said.

LAPD officers responded to a call of shots fired and discovered Zetino’s body outside a vehicle in the parking lot suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department-Community College Bureau deputies worked with LAPD officers at the scene.

Because the campus of L.A. Valley College is the jurisdiction of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, sheriff’s homicide investigators responded to the scene to conduct a homicide investigation.

No classes or campus activities were going on when the shooting occurred and the shooting was not associated with campus activities, officials said.

Investigators said in a statement that they determined the shooting was triggered by a drug deal “rip-off.” The choice of the college parking lot was random, they said.

Information developed by investigators led them to an apartment in San Jacinto in Riverside County, where both suspects were found and arrested without incident.

Two revolvers were recovered, along with other ballistic evidence, officials said. An undetermined amount of illegal drugs were also seized, as well as the suspects’ vehicle, which is believed to have been at the scene during the shooting.
