Fatal crash at 5 Freeway construction site at 710 closes lanes
One person died and another was seriously injured when a vehicle crashed into an Eastside freeway construction site Saturday, causing structural damage and road closures that could last through the weekend.
A red Dodge Magnum northbound on the 5 Freeway crashed into the construction site at the 710 Freeway transition, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Jose Nunez said. The driver was killed.
The crash damaged the structure under construction, causing extensive lane closures of both freeways, Nunez said.
The 5 Freeway northbound transition to the 710 and the 710 Freeway transition to the 5 were closed as of Saturday morning, Nunez said.
Northbound 710 lanes were also closed and traffic was diverted to the 5, Nunez said.
