A 49-year-old San Diego woman faces charges of drunk driving and possession of a controlled substance after eight bicycle riders were injured in a collision Tuesday night.
Theresa Owens is set for arraignment Friday in San Diego County Superior Court on charges that she was driving the wrong way on a one-way street on Fiesta Island when her Geo Prizm smashed into a group of 20 bicyclists.
Owens remains in county jail in lieu of $100,000 bail. She faces two felonies and a misdemeanor.
One of the cyclists hurt in the incident suffered broken ribs, a major vertebral fracture and internal injuries, police said. The others had injuries described as moderate to minor. Two people were treated by paramedics at the scene, officials said.
Owens was also injured in the collision, police said.
Fiesta Island is part of Mission Bay Park and is popular with bicyclists.
