A new YouTube video offers a drone's eye view of Fourth of July fireworks in San Francisco.
Filmmaker Eddie Codel used a drone to film "unofficial" fireworks ignited by residents above the Mission District and Bernal Heights.
His short film shows the skies above the two neighborhoods light up sporadically with fireworks.
Codel told KGO-TV in San Francisco that the film taken from his quad-copter is only a hobby.
"The [Federal Aviation Administration] has basically said there is no commercial use of these drones right now," he told the news station. "They are figuring out the regulations, but currently if you were to fly them commercially you would be breaking their regulations."
Drone use has become a hot-button issue as the unmanned aircraft gain popularity among amateur filmmakers or people like Torrance resident Daniel Saulmon, who want to record police activity.
Saulmon routinely uses his unmanned aircraft to record police traffic stops and DUI checkpoints in the hopes of monitoring any abuse of power.
