Hemet man, 77, found fatally shot in possible theft-related crime

Hemet police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 77-year-old man in what may have been a theft-related crime, authorities said.

Officers arriving at the scene in the 2800 block of Fruitvale Avenue on Saturday evening found the victim sprawled on the ground inside a garage, suffering from a single gunshot wound, said Hemet police Lt. Duane Wisehart.

Authorities rushed to the neighborhood after the Riverside County coroner's office learned of the shooting about 8:15 p.m. Paramedics transported the victim to Hemet Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead an hour later.

No arrests have been made. The victim’s name is not being released at the request of law enforcement.
