L.A. weather: Warming trend expected to break cold snap

Share

After a frigid Monday, temperatures in Los Angeles County are expected to get incrementally warmer throughout the week, with highs in the mid-70s predicted for the upcoming weekend.

“We’re definitely creeping upward,” said meteorologist David Sweet of the National Weather Service. “By Saturday and Sunday, we’ll have highs in the upper-60s to mid-70s ... which is actually a little bit above normal.”

The warmest places in the county Monday will be in Long Beach and at Los Angeles International Airport, where temperatures are expected to reach 62 degrees.

In downtown L.A., the daytime high is only expected to hit 61 degrees, seven degrees below normal, Sweet said. Overnight lows will be in the mid-30s to mid-40s, he added.

Meanwhile, strong winds are swirling through the region. Sweet said there are currently strong winds below passes and canyons from the Malibu area to the Hollywood Hills. The winds are moving at 15 to 25 mph, with gusts of up to 40 mph.

In some mountain areas, winds are predicted to be even stronger and may produce gusts of up to 65 mph.
