Marine stationed at Twentynine Palms killed in combat in Afghanistan

A Marine from the Twentynine Palms training base has been killed in combat in Afghanistan, the Pentagon announced.
Sgt. Thomas Spitzer, 23, from New Braunfels, Texas, was killed Wednesday in Helmand province. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment at the base in Twentynine Palms.
Spitzer, a mortarman, was on his second deployment to Afghanistan. He had received a Combat Action Ribbon for being under fire and returning fire.
