Oscars weather: Rain expected to fade in time for red carpet walks
Scattered showers are expected Sunday morning and afternoon, but the storm should move out in time for the Oscar red carpet festivities in Hollywood.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a 30% of rain through the afternoon. Partly cloudy skies are forecast for the evening.
All lanes on Hollywood Boulevard will be closed from Orange Drive to Highland Avenue at 10 p.m. and will remain closed until 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Sidewalks and alleys were also slated to be closed Sunday, the Academy said in a statement.
The south sidewalk of Hollywood Boulevard between Orange Drive and Highland Avenue was closed at 6 p.m. Saturday, except for an 8-foot pedestrian walkway.
The north sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard in front of the Dolby Theatre was completely closed at 10 p.m. Saturday.
As of Saturday evening, the storm had dropped more than 3 inches of rain in downtown Los Angeles, more than 4 inches in Van Nuys and more than 10 inches at Cogswell Dam in the Angeles National Forest, according to the National Weather Service.
“We said it was going to be a strong storm, and it was. There was some very intense rain,” said Bonnie Bartling, a weather specialist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.
