A brush fire in Thousand Oaks has grown to about 30 acres near Highway 101 and Rancho Road, according to firefighters.

Roughly 125 firefighters were battling the Rancho fire after it broke out around 11 a.m.

Captain Mike Lindbery, public information officer for the Ventura County Fire Department, said there wasn’t as much smoke in the afternoon as there was in the morning when the department VCFD received the fire call.

“From what we can tell, it’s burning south, away from highway and away from structures,” he said. “With the copters and firefighters on the ground, we’re doing fairly well.”

No evacuations were made and there was no immediate threat to structures in the surrounding areas, according to Lindbery. However, Conejo Ridge Avenue was closed at Skyline Drive and Willow Lane.

There is no containment and while the fire remains at about 30 acres, Lindbery said that could change as firefighters have not yet mapped the fire.
