School officials have completed their investigation into an incident last week in Hawaii involving members of the Westlake High School football team that resulted in a student’s arrest on suspicion of sexual assault.

The report will be forwarded to the Thousand Oaks Police Department for review, Supt. Jeff Baarstad said Thursday.

Honolulu police arrested a 17-year-old Westlake football player on suspicion of sexual assault of a 15-year-old player, but prosecutors declined to file charges. More than 150 Westlake players were in Honolulu to play in varsity, junior varsity and freshman games.

Baarstad said earlier this week that an initial discussion with coaches and players indicated that a scuffle erupted in a hotel room between a group of freshmen and varsity players. More information has since been obtained, but the “essential facts what we believe happened in that room hasn’t changed,” he said.

He said “quite a few” of the estimated dozen players who were involved in the incident will be facing a minimum suspension of several games. Several freshman players have also decided to leave Westlake.

He said it will be up to the Thousand Oaks Police Department to decide if any information obtained in interviews is significant enough to forward to Honolulu police.
