Whittier police respond to barricaded man believed to have a hostage
Whittier police have surrounded an apartment complex where a man has barricaded himself and is believed to be holding at least one hostage, authorities said.
Police were called to the complex in the 7900 block of Bright Avenue about 4 p.m., said police spokesman Brad White.
When officers arrived, he said, they saw windows being broken out of the complex and a conflict between a man and a woman inside.
“At this point it’s being treated as a hostage situation,” White said.
Police believe the man may be armed with a knife or a gun, White said.
