Suspect in Whittier stabbing death is arrested after short standoff

A suspect in the stabbing death of a man in Whittier was arrested Tuesday after briefly barricading himself inside a home.

Deputies took 35-year-old Francisco Guardado into custody after he surrendered about 5:15 p.m. at a residence in the 11500 block of Telechron Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The arrest took place without incident.

A second man was also taken into custody after he was found hiding inside the residence. His identity had not been determined Wednesday morning.

Deputies began searching the neighborhood after both men were seen in the area around 1:15 p.m.

The stabbing victim, whose identity and age have not been released, was stabbed about 7:20 p.m. Friday and found in the 11000 block of Carmenita Road, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Department.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The death marked the first homicide in 12 months within a one-mile radius, according to the L.A. Times’ Homicide Report.
