Happy birthday, Manny -- thanks for the picture

Share

“Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday to you. Happy birthday dear Manny…” That’s what John Rose heard from the joyful twenty-somethings in the distance as they sang for their friend. Rose was enjoying the picnic and the sunset with friends at Lizard’s Mouth in Santa Barbara, when on his way out he turned for one last glimpse of the sunset.

Rose had his Nikon D800 set to make a silhouette, as he anticipated the lively group making a gesture worth a picture. He got his wish. The moment with the arm stretched out is a perfect exclamation point to the end of summer.

Rose has been an avid photographer since the good old days of film. He says, “I had the chance to go to Costa Rica in high school with the Spanish class and haven’t put my camera down or stopped moving around since. Traveling to new places has always been a huge inspiration to me but I truly love it when I can make a fresh and new photo out of something I’ve seen a dozen times.”
