Coen Brothers’ ‘Hail, Caesar!’ acquired by Universal, adds Josh Brolin
Joel and Ethan Coen’s next film, “Hail, Caesar!,” has been acquired by Universal Pictures and will star Josh Brolin alongside George Clooney, the studio announced Monday.
The Oscar-winning siblings will direct from their own original screenplay about a fixer in 1950s Hollywood who works for the studios to keep their stars out of trouble.
Clooney has been attached to the project for several years, and “Caesar” will mark his fourth film with the Coens, after “O Brother, Where Art Thou?,” “Intolerable Cruelty” and “Burn After Reading.” Brolin worked on the duo’s “No Country for Old Men” and “True Grit.”
The Coens are producing the film under their Mike Zoss Productions banner alongside Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan for Working Title Films; this will be the eighth collaboration between the Coens and Working Title.
In other Coen brothers news, the two also wrote the script for the World War II drama “Unbroken,” directed by Angelina Jolie, and are penning a draft of an untitled Cold War thriller for Steven Spielberg.
