At least 10 people and a child were injured in a shooting at an outdoor basketball court on Chicago’s South Side late Thursday, according to local fire department and media reports.

The child was seriously wounded, according to the Chicago Fire Department; one responder over scanner traffic guessed that the child was 3 years old.

The fire department said three other victims were seriously hurt, five others moderately wounded and two lightly injured. The victims were taken to four different hospitals.

Chicago Police Department spokeswoman Amina Greer told the Los Angeles Times that she could confirm there were “several” people shot in the 1800 block of West 51st Street about 10:15 p.m., and that police had no one in custody.

“A woman who wouldn’t give her name said 2 guys ran into park and shot at a group sitting on basketball court,” tweeted Becky Schlikerman, a Chicago Sun-Times reporter, adding, “A woman whose 3 yo grandson was apparently shot is here yelling and collapsing on the 51st street.”

Peter Nickeas, a Chicago Tribune reporter, tweeted, “Witness over here says three cops carried the kid to an ambulance. ‘I didn’t hear no sounds’ from the child, he said.”
