Two people have died and at least eight others were transported to a hospital with gunshot wounds after an early morning shooting at a Miami apartment complex, police said.

Miami City Manager Daniel Alfonso told the Associated Press that the dead were a 20-year-old man and a teenage girl, but the Miami Herald reported one of the dead was a 30-year-old man. Police would not release any details about the dead, but said one of the injured was in critical condition.

Miami police received calls reporting the shooting at 12th Avenue and 65th Street around 2:15 a.m. EDT, Miami Police Department spokeswoman Frederica Burden told The Times.

“Dozens” of shots were fired at the courtyard of the apartment complex in the Liberty City neighborhood, according to bullet casings found at the scene, Burden said. She could not confirm if more than one shooter was involved.

No suspects were in custody as of 9:15 a.m., and police had no information about the possible motive for the shooting, she said.

“It could be multiple shooters, it could be one person. We just don’t know at this time,” Burden said.

Police were collecting witness statements in what Burden described as a fluid and ongoing investigation.
