Two inmates captured after escaping Oklahoma jail through shower

Two Oklahoma inmates were captured Monday, but two other escapees remained on the loose after the men broke out of a county jail through the shower room crawl space over the weekend.

Police said they caught up with Dylan Ray Three Irons, 21, and Prime Tounwin Brown, 23, looking wet and dirty, at a convenience store in Chickasha, where they attempted to make a run for it before they were arrested, according to a news release.

Officials said Three Irons and Brown, along with Triston Cheadle, 32, and Anthony James Mendonca, 24, had escaped from the Caddo County jail in nearby Anadarko early Sunday morning.

“Somehow they were able to get the door off [a] hatch and crawl in this space,” Caddo County Sheriff Gene Cain told News9-TV. They kind of followed the pipe to where it came down into a room -- which is outside, actually, the jail -- to a door.”

Anadarko police told KSWO-TV that the escapees’ prison jumpsuits were discovered near the jail. Cain told News9 it was the first escape from the 2-year-old facility.

KOCO-TV reported that three of the men had been convicted of meth-related charges and were awaiting transfer to state prison to serve their sentences, while Cheadle was still facing federal trial on a gun charge.

Mendonca and Cheadle remain at large and officials consider them armed and dangerous.

This is the second high-profile escape in Oklahoma in as many months. In September, eight out-of-state inmates on their way through Oklahoma made off with a prison van after the driver left the keys in the vehicle.

Six of the inmates were still in the van when authorities found it about a mile from where it was stolen and the two other inmates were recaptured a short time later.
