Wife succumbs to mysterious Tennessee explosion that killed husband
A Tennessee woman whose husband died in a mysterious explosion in their home earlier this week has succumbed to her injuries from the apparent bombing, officials said Thursday.
Marion Setzer, 72, died at a Nashville hospital Wednesday evening, two days after her husband, Jon Setzer, 74, was killed in the blast at their Lebanon home.
Investigators tied the blast to an “unknown package” that had apparently been delivered to the home. Jon Setzer was a retired attorney who reportedly handled bankruptcy cases.
“Two people targeted for this kind of violence doesn’t make sense at all,” the Rev. Mike Ripski, senior pastor at First United Methodist Church in Lebanon, told the Tennessean.
“We are trying to make sense of this and so far we haven’t been able to,” Ripski told the newspaper. “If our faith is ever drawn on to sustain us through the unanswered questions, this is one of those occasions. The grief is deep, profound, because they were such wonderful people.”
The Setzers had attended Ripski’s church.
Officials scheduled a Thursday evening news conference to discuss “new developments in the case,” according to a statement by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation provided to the Los Angeles Times.
Investigators have offered an $8,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the investigation, which has drawn the efforts of numerous federal agencies, including the FBI and U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
