Two women who abducted a 5-week-old boy in South Los Angeles pleaded guilty to child stealing Tuesday and were sentenced to two years in prison.

Annette Michelle Pinkard, 48, and Sylvia Marie Wilson Hardman, 53, had been charged with kidnapping, conspiracy, child stealing and attempting to buy custody of a person.

They had faced 13 years in prison if convicted on all four charges.

Police said the women drove up to the baby’s mother, Dominique Calloway, 17, on May 22 and offered to buy the baby, Devon, for $6,000. Calloway has said she told the abductors she would consider selling him but didn’t truly intend to do so. She accepted a ride home from them.

At Calloway’s duplex on 42nd Street, the women displayed money and repeated their offer, investigators said. When Calloway declined, they asked to see the baby a last time. Calloway took him to their SUV and they drove off with him, police said.

Pinkard and Hardman were arrested two days later in Dallas, and the baby was returned safe.
