O.C. man accused of sabotaging trail
A Fullerton man has been charged with felony vandalism for allegedly digging potholes in a park trail to thwart mountain bikers who were interfering with his enjoyment of walking his dog, the Orange County district attorney’s office said Friday.
An arrest warrant was issued for Warren John Wilson, 52, district attorney spokeswoman Susan Kang Schroeder said. She said police officers “set up surveillance and saw Mr. Wilson in the act.”
Reached by telephone Friday, Wilson said he did not dig any holes in the trail and was unaware that he had been charged with a felony count. He said he spoke with police investigating the matter at Laguna Lake Park in mid-December, but did not admit being the digger and was not told he was a suspect.
“I walk the dog every morning,” he said. “They had detectives there, I talked to them, that was about it.”
Sgt. Linda King of the Fullerton Police Department told City News Service that about 50 holes had been dug in a trail that runs parallel to Bud Turner Trail since mid-June, and that riders complained of being thrown over the handlebars after hitting the holes.
