Toronto touts prestige pics
The Toronto International Film Festival unveiled a lineup of prestigious films on Wednesday bound to attract awards and critical attention.
The festival’s 32nd annual slate includes 349 films from 55 countries.
Among the highlights is the world premiere of David Cronenberg’s “Eastern Promises,” along with the debut of Sidney Lumet’s “Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead,” Shekhar Kapur’s “Elizabeth: The Golden Age,” Paul Haggis’s “In the Valley of Elah,” Gavin Hood’s “Rendition,” Tony Gilroy’s “Michael Clayton,” Kenneth Branagh’s “Sleuth,” and Paul Schrader’s “The Walker.”
Films from other notable directors include Gillian Armstrong’s “Death Defying Acts,” Vadim Perelman’s “In Bloom,” Jason Reitman’s “Juno,” Ira Sachs’ “Married Life,” Jonathan Demme’s “Man From Plains,” Alison Eastwood’s “Rails & Ties” and Brian De Palma “Redacted.”
“Captain Mike Across America,” a new documentary from Michael Moore centered on the 2004 presidential election will screen in the Special Presentations collection with Ang Lee’s “Lust, Caution,” Julian Schnabel’s “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly” and Neil Jordan’s “The Brave One.”
The lineup also includes Renny Harlin’s “Cleaner,” Richard Attenborough’s “Closing The Ring,” and Robin Swicord’s “The Jane Austen Book Club.”
The festival opens on September 6th with Jeremy Podeswa’s “Fugitive Pieces” and closes with Paolo Barzman’s “Emotional Arithmetic” on September 15th.
