Readers React: About that freeway pollution

As one who lives next to a freeway, I can attest to not just the air pollution but also the grime, noise and vibrations caused by it as well. I’ve often thought to take a page from the “I hate airplanes but moved next to an airport” crowd. (“Air quality monitor near I-5 in Anaheim finds higher pollution level,” May 14)

We’ll form a group (ROAD, for Reduce Our Automotive Din) and demand government-supplied soundproofing and air filtration systems for our homes. Next we’ll want limits on the types and numbers of vehicles that can use the freeways, and after that we’ll push for curfews. And of course our ultimate goal will be to shut the dang things down altogether.

Sound crazy? No more so than anyone who moves next to an airport and then complains about the presence of airplanes.
