Lauren Bacall’s New York City home is listed at $26 million
Lauren Bacall’s longtime residence in New York City has come on the market at $26 million.
The airy unit in the 19th century Dakota building has nine large rooms with 13-foot-high ceilings that look out on treetops, Central Park and the cityscape.
A mahogany vestibule opens to a foyer with its original fireplace. A 70-foot-long hall leads to a library, a great room and a formal dining room. The library features the original pocket doors, a fireplace and a floor-to-ceiling window with a Juliette balcony. Mahogany doors connect to the living room, which also has a fireplace.
Pocket doors, wainscoting, a fireplace, a corner china cabinet are among features in the dining room, which connects to a butler’s pantry by a swinging door.
The Dakota, built in 1884, has such amenities as a doorman and is pet friendly.
Bacall, who died in August at 89, worked with Humphrey Bogart in such classic 1940s films as “To Have and Have Not,” “The Big Sleep” and “Key Largo.” They were married from 1945 until his death in 1957. Her last starring role was in the 2012 film “The Forger.”
