LOS ANGELES, Calif. – September 30, 2009 – The Los Angeles Times today announced Lisa Fung as Online Arts & Entertainment Editor. In her new role she will oversee round-the-clock multimedia coverage of all arts and entertainment, including Calendar, The Envelope and Company Town, as well as more than a dozen latimes.com blogs. In addition, Fung is charged with developing new online properties and services to enhance The Times’ standing as the definitive source for news, information and analysis about pop culture, celebrity, movies, music, television, social media, video games, arts, culture, awards and the business of Hollywood.

“Lisa is as comfortable within the realm of social media as she is with Wagner, American Idol and Warhol, perfectly preparing her for this challenging new position,” said Times Editor Russ Stanton. “Her appointment is a further step in our integrated newsroom strategy, linking our entertainment reporting and editing teams to best serve our online readership and expand The Times’ coverage of popular culture.”

Fung has been with The Times for more than 21 years and, as a key member of the entertainment team, has overseen arts and culture coverage for the past nine years, including theater, architecture, classical music, dance and opera. Her direction has resulted in three Pulitzer Prize finalists and established the Culture Monster blog as a must-read, infused with a pop sensibility that has made it one of latimes.com’s top 10 in monthly traffic. Throughout her long career with The Times Fung helped launch the national edition and worked in Metro and Business before joining Calendar in 2000.
