Window broken at Forest Avenue business

A planter was thrown through the front window of a business on Forest Avenue whose operating permit is being revoked, Laguna Beach police said this week.

A pedestrian alerted police to the broken window at Oceane Skin Care on Tuesday morning. Police had not yet determined the extent of the damage.

Co-owner Shay Hamo said the business, at 266 Forest Ave., remained open while crews repaired the window. He called the vandalism “confusing” and “shocking.”

“Why would someone do something like that?” Hamo said. “We haven’t harmed anybody.”

He said no merchandise was stolen.

Oceane has limited time left in Laguna after the City Council last month upheld the Planning Commission’s recommendation to revoke the business’ operating permit. Pedestrians accused Oceane employees of soliciting them on the sidewalk in front of the shop, which violated its permit that all transactions be made inside the store, city officials said.

Oceane owners told the City Council at a meeting in December that they tried to build rapport with the community and felt they were unfairly targeted.

The city gave Oceane 90 days to vacate the space.
