The Greater Huntington Beach Interfaith Council provided free services, including showers and haircuts, to about 60 homeless people Saturday.

The recipients also had access to clothes laundering facilities, replacement clothing, career counseling, assistance for veterans and medical and dental care at Fountain Valley United Methodist Church.

The event was held in conjunction with Community Service Day, when hundreds of volunteers from churches and organizations like the Assistance League of Huntington Beach and Compassionate Huntington Beach beautified parks and other areas of Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley.

“Moms, dads, children, grandparents, sisters and brothers working together to help take pride in the community they live in,” said David P. Garofalo, board member of the Greater Huntington Beach Interfaith Council, in a statement. “Building relationships, championing public service, helping families bond is the platform we have created to give back to the community that gives a quality of life envied by many.”
