Mike Trout homers twice, has five RBIs to lead Angels past Astros, 6-3

KEY MOMENT: Mike Trout fouled off two nasty down-and-in, 0-and-2 pitches from reliever Chad Qualls before lining a three-run home run to right field in the eighth inning. The opposite-field shot broke a 3-3 tie and gave the Angels center fielder his fourth career multi-homer game and five runs batted in on the night.

AT THE PLATE: Trout became the youngest player in major league history to hit 100 homers and steal 100 bases when he hit a two-run homer to left in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie. Trout is 23 years, 251 days old. Alex Rodriguez was 23 years, 309 days old when he joined the 100-100 club in 1999. Kole Calhoun, slowed by right-calf tightness, started for the first time since Saturday. He tripled and scored on Matt Joyce’s sacrifice fly in the fourth, singled and scored on Trout’s homer in the sixth and walked and scored before Trout’s homer in the eighth. Calhoun also made a diving catch of Jason Castro’s fly to right to end the eighth.

ON THE MOUND: Jered Weaver, 0-2 with an 8.71 earned-run average in his first two starts, took a step forward, yielding two runs and six hits, including Castro’s homer in the sixth, striking out three and walking none. Left-hander Cesar Ramos got the win. He replaced Vinnie Pestano with runners on first and third and no outs in the seventh and got Jed Lowrie to ground into a 6-4-3 double play, preserving a 3-3 tie. Joe Smith threw a one-two-three eighth, and Huston Street retired the side in order in the ninth for his fourth save. Street has retired all 12 batters he has faced this season.
