Amare Stoudemire could be finished for the season just days after the Phoenix Suns decided not to trade him. Stoudemire, a starter for the West in Sunday’s All-Star game, had eye surgery Friday and won’t be able to resume physical activity for about eight weeks.

Suns General Manager Steve Kerr said Stoudemire was “really discouraged.”

“We’re going to be ultraconservative with this and if it means he misses the remainder of the season, so be it,” said Kerr, whose team didn’t find out about the need for surgery until after Thursday’s trade deadline.

Etc.

Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett is heading back to Boston to have his right knee checked by the team doctor. Garnett, who was injured during Thursday’s game, was “not in tremendous pain,” but his knee remained sore and stiff. . . . Portland Trail Blazers center Greg Oden will sit out at least two more games because of a bone chip in his left knee. . . . The Indiana Pacers say guard Mike Dunleavy will be out indefinitely because of a sore right knee.
